The Earth Has Spheres

Scientists divide our home planet into three spheres. Each sphere is categorized according to its physical characteristics. These spheres are the Atmosphere, which is made of all the Earth’s gases; the Lithosphere, which is made up of all the Earth’s physical materials, such as rocks and soil; and the Hydrosphere, which is made up of all the Earth’s water.

The Atmosphere

The atmosphere is comprised of all the gasses that surround the Earth.  Which provide air for us to breath, as well as a layer of protection from the hazards of outer space.  The Atmosphere insulates the Earth, helping to regulate temperatures and keep it warmer.  This is also where all the weather happens.

The Lithosphere

The Earth’s lithosphere is made up of all the solid parts of the Earth.  The rocks, soil, dirt, magma, and so forth.  The lithosphere is where geology happens.  Like erosion, weathering, and the rock cycle.  It is also where volcanoes form, and earth quakes occur.

The Hydrosphere

Seventy percent of the Earth’s surface is covered by water.  This water makes up the Earth’s hydrosphere.  Which are mostly oceans and seas, but also include lakes, rivers, ponds, and swamps.  The hydrosphere is believed to be where life began on Earth.
